Signature Series event with Kim Sunée

December 9, 2008

The third and final 2008 Signature Series event with author Kim Sunée was enjoyable. Sunée autographed her book, Trail of Crumbs, a charming memoir of Kim Sunée’s lyrical journey from Korea to New Orleans to the South of France. Along the way there are unforgettable portraits and a heartbreaking romance, but food is her touchstone and her passion.

B & A Warehouse catered the event. Guests dined on recipes from Kim Sunée’s book including Chicken with Cinnamon and Dates; Cous-Cous; Spring Pea Salad with Minted Cream and Almond Saffron Cake.

Partnering with The Alabama Booksmith, The Literacy Council’s Signature Series brings three prominent authors to Birmingham for private cocktail receptions. Signature Series subscriptions are limited to preserve the intimacy of each reception where guests meet the author and receive signed copies of their novels. The author lineup for the 2009 series will soon be announced. Alabama Power Company is the sponsor. For more information call The Literacy Council at 205-326-1925 or 1-888-448-7323. All proceeds benefit The Literacy Council, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and strengthening organizations that provide literacy services in Central Alabama.

Friends of Literacy -- New Young Patrons Opportunity

One of the greatest assets Birmingham has to offer is the strong service-mindedness of the members of the community. Friends of Literacy is a young patron’s group that works to create awareness and support of literacy. The Literacy Council is looking for members to join this vibrant, civic-minded organization.

We have confirmed our speaker and date for our next Friends of Literacy event. It will be Thursday, August 14 and the President of Mental Floss Magazine (a new trivia magazine) will be the speaker. We will be meeting prior to the event to get everything coordinating.

Friends of Literacy is currently trying to add more structure to the group. If you are interested in assuming a leadership role within the group please let Debra Des Vignes of the Literacy Council know (205-326-1925).

In addition, if you know of anyone that may be interested in joining the group please send me their contact information. We will be sending letters in the next couple of weeks to officially invite new members to join.

Thanks for you participation and please let me know if you have any questions.
